Raduga Trio is best described as fun babushka music or an eclectic and exciting take on a raw gypsy style. Expect contemporary arrangements of old tunes on the clarinet, piano accordion, ukulele, guitar and various hand percussion, flavoured with tap dance and original music. The trio plays without looping or digital devices – just good ol’ gypsy music! Retro refreshing sounds- “Raduga”– from Russian meaning rainbow.

Join Raduga Trio for an energetic Sunday session, 6:30-8:30 pm. Come along early if you want a seat as it’s first come, first served. Bar & Kitchen open, family-friendly, free event. Live music @ Hotel Blue is brought to you by ‘Music in the Mountains’.

JUNO and four-time CFMA Award Winners the ‘Good Lovelies’ return to Australia.

You’ve got a plan. It’s yours to make. It’s yours to break. You can own it, spin it, build it and smash it. You can write it down. You can shake it up. You can change your mind. You can burn the plan.
With Burn The Plan a long-awaited new album, Good Lovelies are both fulfilling and defying their so-called musical destiny as a “folk trio.” What makes this Burn The Plan special is that the band’s considerable strengths – winsome song writing, impeccable vocals, and triangulated charisma – don’t tell the full story. There’s a new spirit of adventurousness that gives Burn The Plan an extra spark; the album is permeated with textures and tones from musical worlds away. This time around, the trio has spent time developing, expanding and honing their sound as musicians first, and as Good Lovelies second. These new songs were crafted not to ‘fit’ the band’s catalogue per se, but to exercise some autonomy from the confines of genre and tradition. The band is still playing, but not always to type, you might say.
Burn The Plan is a study in how individual voices find common ground in such a tight-knit group dynamic. What keeps the three Lovelies making music together is not just their uncanny vocal compatibility; it’s their unshakeable friendships, which supports each member contributing to the song writing in distinct ways. The story behind Burn The Plan is something of a contradiction – while each Lovely contributed their most personal songs to date, each song is filtered through a unique process of collaboration that characterises the band’s entire M.O, where the final result is really and truly equal.

2011’s Juno-nominated Let The Rain Fall was the last time the Good Lovelies released a full-length studio album. It may not feel so long ago, since the band’s profile has continued to grow with awards, steady and sold-out touring, and a live album in between, but you can do a whole lotta living, loving and letting go in four years. For Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough and Sue Passmore, four years has been the exact number of hours, moments and experiences needed to take the next step, to burn the plan.

Prince Edward Island trio TEN STINGS AND A GOAT SKIN announce their first tour of Australia in March/ April 2018. This dynamic bluegrass ensemble will perform at The National, Yackandandah and Fairbridge Folk Festivals, plus concerts in TAS, WA, NSW and VIC.

Transforming tradition with vigour, curiosity, humour and spark, this Canadian trio wielding bodhrán, acoustic guitar and violin plays seamless, polished, barrel-drum-tight, rhythmically innovative and wildly entertaining music. Singing in both French and English, they were awarded “World Music Recording of the Year” by Canada’s “East Coast Music Association”, been nominated for two Canadian Folk Music Awards, and received “Roots-Traditional Album of the Year” (2012) from Music PEI.

Brothers Caleb and Rowen Gallant wield Bodhrán and violin, while Jesse Périard drives acoustic guitar, now creating original songs and arrangements. Their recent album “Auprès du Poêle” weaves old-school Acadian roots (Franco-Canadian) with Breton, Irish and Scottish tunes, filled with wicked grooves and cunning quirks, featuring both traditional and original songs. Working closely with producer Leonard Podolak (The Duhks), Ten Strings and a Goat Skin pushed their music into new territory which promises to gather new listeners around the warm glow of fast-burning tradition.

Touring constantly through Canada, USA, Europe and the UK, playing at major festivals including Winnipeg, Vancouver and Calgary Folk Festivals, North Country Fair, Edmonton Folk Festival (Canada), Folk Alliance International (USA), Tønder Festival (Denmark), they were invited back for two years in a row to prestigious Shewsbury Folk Festival (UK). Yet the trio never forgets its powerful ties to the many musics of PEI, the island’s rich mix of Celtic and Francophone elements that ramble from mouth music to foot percussion. Originals take their cues sonically from this wealth and lyrically from a deeply felt connection to the history of Eastern Canada (“Caledonia”).Don’t miss them while they are in Oz!

“A seamless, polished, barrel-drum-tight, rhythmically innovative and wildly entertaining traditional music powerhouse.” – The Guardian

“They make music based in PEI’s folk traditions, with a drive and perspective that blows the cobwebs off any outdated view of folk music.” – McIntyre Hall Performing Arts Center

“Ten strings and a goat skin are merely the instruments; it is the talent and charm of these three lads that brings them alive…A magic I never wanted to end.” – Val Haller ~ Valslist, Chicago

“Toe-tapping fiddle tunes to heart-felt ballads … lively instrumentals and their breathtaking harmonies.” – The Guardian

Probably one of the most exciting and progressive new roots groups to come through the Burren in some time…. The future for these boys is huge. Traditional music – roots and branches – on both sides of the Atlantic, is in very good hands!” – Penguin Eggs

The Maes (formerly The Mae Trio) are a multi-award winning band of three of the Australian folk scene’s most talented young songwriters, singers and performers. Sisters Maggie and Elsie Rigby (The Rainmakers) are joined by cellist Monique Clare.

Acclaimed flamenco guitarist PACO LARA from Jerez de la frontera, Spain, together with ARIA nominated flamenco guitarist DAMIAN WRIGHT presenting a performance of flamenco guitar music as well as music by Chick Corea, Jorge Cardoso & more

Embodying the unmistakeable Jerez style of flamenco guitar playing, PACO LARA has toured Internationally alongside Maestro Paco Cepero, one of flamenco’s most legendary guitarists and composers. Paco Lara has also been at the vanguard of Flamenco Fusion with hugely sucessful groups such as El Barrio (años 2000 a 2003) y Los Delinqüentes (años 2007 a 2011).

Apart from his skill as a formidable soloist Paco is also revered for his ability as an acompaniest in the specialised world of flamenco singing (cante). This is evident in his having recorded and/or performed with Flamenco’s most significant artists including Beni de Cádiz, Juan Moneo “El Torta”, Miguel Flores “El Capullo de Jerez”, Tomasa Guerrero “La Macanita”, Remedios Amaya, José de los Camarones, etc.

As an accompaniest to flamenco dance (Baile) Paco has participated in many European tours with famed Flamenco dancer Merecedes Ruiz from Jerez, in her concerts Dibujos en el aire, Gestos de mujer y Perspectivas. The later was awarded the “Critics Choice” at The Festival de Jerez in 2011 and this project has been represented in prestigious programs and festivals across Europe including Festival de guitarra de Córdoba, Spain (7 Julio 2012), Teatro Compac Gran Vía de Madrid, Spain (22 al 26 Agosto 2012), Bienal de Sevilla, Spain (15 de Septiembre 2012), Beziers (Francia), Casa de la Música de Moscú, Russia y S. Petesburgo, Russia (Marzo/2013).

In 2014 DAMIAN WRIGHT was invited to perform as a SOLO artist at The Rajasthan International Folk Festival, INDIA and in 2016 performed at The Shanghai Fringe Festival, CHINA. Damian’s flamenco ensemble BANDALUZIA were invited to perform at the biannual Adelaide International Guitar Festival curated by Slava Grigoryan. Bandaluzia was also recently awarded “The Pick Of the Sydney Fringe” at The Sydney Fringe Festival and performed to a sold out Sydney Opera House Concert Hall as an invited artist to TEDX Sydney 2014.

“Damian Wright is a brilliant flamenco guitarist…Wright showed what a captivating solo player he is on his own “In Time”, and elsewhere his articulation of complex lines was fluid and dripping with conviction” – John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald.

Experience the wonderful cabaret talents of Jocelyn Moen and Martin Dawes – think forgotten wartime french classics and 1920s classics. Oh, and there is a souzaphone! Juggling instruments and languages, Jocelyn and Martin perform a wide range of originals, French chansons, Celtic classics, hillbilly harmonies, and covers from Kurt Weill and Franz Schubert to Johnny Cash and Billy Joel. Guy Strazz’s new original music with the Acoustic Wonderland Band continues the melding of jazz, Afro-Latin music, and South Indian classical music.

Date: Saturday, April 21st, 2018
Location: The Boiler House @ The Hydro Majestic

Doors Open: 7:30 pm
First Set: 8:00-8:45 pm
Second Set: 9:00-9:45 pm

Tickets: $35 – Book online or call Chris on 0411 954 826

Guy Strazz is pleased to announce a return to collaborating with brilliant pianist Matt McMahon following his previously AIR nominated 2@1 jazz release (Birdland Records), and the Jazz APRA Mandela (ABC). Guy and Matt will joined by bassist Craig Scott and drummer Dave Goodman who have graced the stage with musicians such Joe Henderson, Joe Lovano, Mark Isaacs, and Matt Keegan.

Guy’s new original music with the Acoustic Wonderland Band continues the melding of jazz, Afro-Latin music, and South Indian classical music; an approach previously established on Guy’s CD Calcutta Express, which picked up an Indie Acoustic Project USA 2006 Nomination, and Eastern Blues (Rufus 2013) – CD of the Week on the ABC The Planet.

While Acoustic Wonderland proposes new ground in this field of music, rich melodies and rhythms remain central Guy’s work. There are explorations of seemingly simple harmonies leaning towards folk-rock music in new tunes such as the emotive Taj Mahal, a South Indian influenced arrangement of Miles Davis’ All Blues as well as the fire and joy of tunes such as Afro Bouban and Dadra Funk, and the revisit of the Riddle – a milestone composition in Australian acoustic fusion.

Join the exciting Acoustic Wonderland Band for their Boilerhouse debut appearance and be part of their Blue Mountains journey!

“So completely are the component parts integrated, providing the players with unique rhythmic and melodic fields upon which to unleash their improvising skills” About Eastern Blues – John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald
