Based in the Blue Mountains just outside Sydney, Katoomba Music’s bricks and mortar business has been established for over a decade, delivering the lowest price on the best guitars, amps, keyboards, basses, effects, percussion and other music gear in Australia. We can usually price match other stores Our online shop is now growing to reflect what we have in the store – if you see a product on this site, we have it hanging in the shop, waiting for you to test, or ready to send out straight away. We also have a huge range of other stuff in our physical shop as well so if you prefer to do things the old-fashioned way, come in and say g’day or give us a call on 02 4782 1121 with any questions.

IAN MORRISONBoss Yang

Ian Morrison has taken retail inspiration from Bernard of Black Books and Basil in Faulty Towers. He has years of experience playing drums and haranguing guitarists to get a better sound. He is a bit of a gear nerd and solves more problems than he creates.

MICHELLE MORRISONBoss Yin

To balance out the store ownership, Michelle Morrison, who plays piano and piano accordion presents the gentle face of retail (and is obviously ‘the real’ boss, baby.) Michelle has many years of primary teaching experience and knows much about the needs of children learning music.

CAM KENSEYC and W Hospitality

Cam plays guitar in the bands ‘That Redhead’ and ‘CK and the 45s’. He teaches guitar at Penrith Conservatorium of Music and sets up guitars around the shop. Cam knows lots about guitar gear and amps, tubes etc.

IAN WILLISGuitar repairs and setups

Ian ‘The Grey’ Willis has been playing and repairing fretted string instruments for over 40yrs and honours us daily with his musical knowledge and arcane wizardry.

LULU LEVINS-SKEHILLSocial Media Liason Officer

Mesmerising singer and bass player with Sonori and other projects. Lulu handles most of our facebook/instagram work and she is great with making customers feel at ease.

FUNKY DAVEBack beat of the store

Dave is a fine local musician. Mostly known as a bass player, Dave is experienced in home recording and has recently shown a great touch on drums.

HAMISH RYNHARTThe Rhythm of the store.

Hamish is a local live and session guitarist. When not teaching high school he is playing with local bands Bonniedoon and Mood Swing and recently played with the Mountaineers, backing up Angry Anderson, Swanee and Steve Kilby on their visits to the mountains.

STEFANO COSENTINOThe string section of the store.

Stefano Cosentino is a freelance musician who plays bass, and sometimes guitar, sometimes touring, sometimes recording. Mostly gigging. He will also be starting a regular program of music lessons, held in-store at Katoomba Music

All Katoomba Music staff have teaching experience and therefore are more than capable of helping you with advice, supplies and support for your school, institution or academy.

Katoomba Music Recent History

On January 14, 2016 the previous store owners Dan Lander and partner Mischa , transferred the business to Ian Morrison and Michelle Baker. So grateful to Dan and Mischa for building this cool little shop . Since 1886 when The Carrington Hotel opened its first music room there has been a need for musical instrument support in the community and the only place in town to visit is Katoomba Music.

Live Music in the Blue Mountains

International and local acts of all styles are well represented in the Blue Mountains, at venues like Hotel Blue (Katoomba) or Live at the Village (Springwood). Local bands have a great opportunity to create strong fan-bases at pubs like The Old City Bank Brasserie (Katoomba) where backpackers can purchase the music or be left with a memorable enough experience to disseminate it around the world.
