Description
The “Bushfoods” ukulele features original artwork by Margaret Bloomfield, an Aboriginal artist from Santa Teresa, a remote community 100 km south-east of Alice Springs.
Her painting tells the story of the bushfoods that grow naturally in the desert — such as passionfruit ‘Arruntene’ and bush banana ‘Alangkwe’. These fruits represent sustenance, survival, and the deep connection between people and the land.
Bushfoods
"My painting is about the bushfoods we often go out bush to collect and eat. They are wild passionfruit 'Arrutnenge' and bush banana 'Akabgkwe'. We also eat witchety grubs, honey ants, bush coconut and other foods that grow here in the desert. There are plenty of things to eat if you know where to look. It is important to me to teach the young kids and pass on the knowledge the right way"
